LSI Logic First to Offer Synthesized ARM1136J-S at 400MHz

-- Unprecedented performance with synthesized 32-bit processor core for SoC designers -- First ARM11 capable of synchronous communication with 400MHz data rate DDR memories -- Available now for both RapidChip(TM) Platform and cell-based ASIC applications

MILPITAS, Calif., Oct. 13 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Immediately available for both RapidChip(TM) and cell-based ASIC applications, LSI Logic Corporation today added the ARM1136J-S(TM) processor core running at 400MHz to its portfolio of high-performance processor cores in Gflx(TM) 0.11-micron technology. The fully synthesized ARM1136J-S processor core features an industry-leading combination of high performance, low-power, small size and high code density to address next-generation designs in the communications, storage, consumer and other markets.

"Our 400MHz design overcomes system latencies normally caused by running the processor and DDR memories asynchronously. The industry now has an ARM solution that allows maximum system performance with 400MHz data rate memories," said Rafi Kedem, senior director, CoreWare Technology Group at LSI Logic. "The ARM1136J-S perfectly complements our existing processor portfolio. Our customers can now select their ARM processor of choice from the 266MHz ARM926EJ-S, the 333MHz ARM1026EJ-S or the 400MHz ARM1136J-S to match their memory system performance requirements."

LSI Logic's version of the high-performance eight-stage pipeline 32-bit RISC ARM1136J-S core includes a 16KB instruction cache, 16KB data cache, 16KB instruction TCM (tightly-coupled memory) and 16KB data TCM. The core includes a memory management unit (MMU) for operating systems such as Linux and 64-bit instruction and data AHB interfaces enabling high-performance access to memory systems. LSI Logic also provides complete System CoreWare(R) IP for processors that contain all the peripherals that enable customers, using an operating system such as Linux, to immediately start application software development. All System CoreWare solutions are pre-verified and provide a full set of deliverables for easy integration by the end customer.

"LSI Logic has made a significant achievement in hitting 400MHz with the ARM1136J-S core," said John Rayfield, vice president of U.S. marketing, ARM. "Operating at this frequency enables very efficient use of high speed DDR memories operating synchronously with the core."

LSI Logic is a leading ASIC/SoC/Platforms solution provider. The company offers unprecedented versatility for ASIC/SoC/Platforms and standard products for the communications, consumer, storage and other markets. The company's extensive library of CoreWare(R) IP offers proven, easy to integrate, performance-leading cores and system solutions, including GigaBlaze(R) and HyperPHY(TM) high-speed standards-compliant SerDes, ARM and MIPS processors and associated systems, licensable ZSP(R) DSP cores, processor peripherals and AMBA(TM) on-chip-bus structures, USB cores, Memory PHYs and Controllers, Ethernet MAC and PHY cores, PCI Express, XGXS, SPI4.2 and other protocol layer IP.
